Attorney Matthew T. Muckler Secures Probation for Client in Wilkes-Barre Shooting Incident

WILKES-BARRE – Thanks to the strong defense provided by Attorney Matthew T. Muckler, Johnny Elijah Credle is out on probation, while the other party involved in the shooting incident, Nicholas Anthony Gilliard, is still awaiting trial. Muckler’s skillful negotiations resulted in Credle avoiding jail time after the November 2023 altercation in the Wilkes-Barre Township Marketplace parking lot.

Credle, 49, of Nanticoke, was sentenced to two years in the restrictive probation program, with nine months on house arrest with electronic monitoring. This outcome was secured on August 8, after Muckler negotiated a no contest plea to the reduced charge of criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault.

The incident, which arose from a dispute over a slammed car door, involved an exchange of gunfire between Credle and Gilliard, 26. Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene, though no injuries were reported. Credle claimed self-defense, stating he returned fire only after hearing shots directed at him.

Muckler’s ability to secure probation without incarceration reflects his extensive experience handling challenging criminal cases. While Credle serves his sentence on house arrest, Gilliard faces trial in October for criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault. Muckler’s work underscores the importance of skilled representation in achieving favorable outcomes for clients.
